No Job Is Secure
Options and way-outs
Given today's prevailing business philosophy that employees are replaceable, no one has job security. The corporate world sometimes refers to employees as "human assets." What an objectionable term! Characterizing employees as assets reflects a lack of respect for human dignity. People are not interchangeable and disposable, like supplies and equipment. Yet, that is how many corporate officials view their personnel. That attitude will come back to bite them in the end! (Pun intended.)
We may feel as though the job security we learned of in school and early in our careers no longer exists. In reality, however, security really never existed. The industrialists and robber barons of economic days past hardly had their employees' best interests in mind when making business decisions. Today, we notice the absence of any semblance of job security; employers now without hesitation take actions they previously may not have taken, and they do so more publicly and frequently.
